  • Spelling
  • Reading comprehension
  • Vocabulary development
  • Use of reference materials

What approach do you use to address language skills?

The Orton-Gillingham remedial approach is used extensively whenever appropriate. This remedial approach is a sequential, alphabetic, phonetic method using a multi-sensory approach to the learning of language. Multi-sensory approach means using visual (eyes), auditory (ears), and kinesthetic (muscle) modalities in an integrated way. Orton-Gillingham requires much repetition in order to make new skills automatic.

How will you measure my child's progress?

Through direct observation and diagnostic assessments, your child's strengths and weaknesses will be assessed.  For example, if your child is scoring below grade level in reading comprehension, assessments will determine in which area your child is experiencing difficulty.  Is she/he experiencing problems finding the main idea, identifying facts, drawing conclusions, making assumptions, or sequencing information?  Instruction will then be individualized to address the unique needs of the learner.  Post-testing will determine progress.
